6 IPOB/ESN Members killed in shoot out in Imo


In a bloody gunfight with the police, six suspected members of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra () and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (), were killed.

They were killed when they attempted to set fire to the palace of His Royal Highness Eze Dr E. C Okeke, Chairman of the Imo Council Of Traditional Rulers, in Orlu Local Government Area.

The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Monday, when a group of hoodlums in three Hilux vehicles were seen shooting sporadically and advancing fiercely towards the Eze’s Palace to wreak havoc.

CSP Michael Abattam, a police spokesman, confirmed the incident, saying that after receiving the information, the Command’s Tactical Team, along with the military, immediately mobilised and rushed to the palace.

“When the hoodlums saw the combined team, they engaged them in a gunfight, throwing petrol bombs.” The brave team responded by establishing a professional posture.

The hoodlums were overwhelmed by the combined team’s superior firepower during the exchange of gunfire that ensued, and six of them were neutralised while others escaped with various degrees of gunshot injuries.”

According to him, the operatives discovered one pump action gun, three blood stained cutlasses, and three Hilux vehicles that were allegedly stolen from unwitting citizens.

He claimed that calm had returned to the area, and that the bandits’ bodies had been removed and deposited in the mortuary.
