34 Lawyers Defend Suspected Killers Of Samuel In Court

The accused murderers of Deborah Samuel, Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunci, were defended in court today by a total of 34 lawyers.

Prof. Mansur Ibrahim led the defence team.

Deborah Samuel, a 200-Level Home Economics student at Sokoto’s Shehu Shagari College of Education, was slain by a mob on May 12 for alleged blasphemy.

The suspects, who were co-students of the deceased, were detained and charged for their alleged involvement in the crime in a Sokoto Chief Magistrate’s Court.

When asked to enter their pleas, they both said no to the charge.

Deborah’s body was lying in a morgue at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto, according to prosecuting insp Khalil Musa.

Prof. Mansur Ibrahim, the defense team’s leader, then filed for liberal bail for the suspects, citing constitutional protections and portions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law.

However, the trial judge reserved his decision on the bail application and ordered the accused to be remanded in custody.
