Ejes Gist News can authoritatively reports, that three officers of the Nigerian Police, in Anambra State Command, have been shot dead by unknown gunmen during a shootout while on duty in a checkpoint.
The incident happened around 9 a.m. on Sunday in Onitsha, Anambra state, along the Ukaegbu/Ezeiweka road.
Two other officers were injured in the shoot-out, according to the report.
The hoodlums also set fire to the police officers’ operation vehicles.
According to an eyewitness, the gunmen may have acted out of rage over police extortion of road users.
“The residents are relieved whenever they station there because the area is dangerous. “However, people don’t like the way they extort motorists,” the witness told reporters.
Ikenga Tochukwu, the Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police, confirmed the incident, saying, “The information is still sketchy.” I’ll contact you as soon as I can.”
