Twenty-two more senators of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) are planning to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the APC, Femi Fani-Kayode has said.
He claimed that the senators’ intended defection stemmed from their being excluded from the party’s ticket to run in the elections of 2023.

Fani-Kayode said something must be done to stop the mass defections within the party in a tweet on Wednesday.
Because they were not given Senate tickets, 22 APC senators have threatened to defect to the PDP. There must be action taken to stop this because it is serious. We ask our competent National Chairman and National Secretary to contact the many people who are worried. We must not let them go, he wrote.
Seven senators left the APC for other opposition parties, according to a report published by Daily Trust earlier today.
Ibrahim Shekarau (Kano), Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi), Adamu Aliero (Kebbi), Dauda Jika (Bauchi), Ahmad Babba Kaita (Katsina), Lawal Yahaya Gumau (Bauchi), and Francis Alimikhena are Senate members who left the APC (Edo).
Abdullahi Adamu, the party’s national chairman, told reporters after a private meeting with APC senators that it was regrettable that the lawmakers had left the party.
