A Nigerian man, Agu has taken to Twitter to narrate a story about his friend.

He revealed that his friend lost her marketing job over failure to meet her N300m target.

“A friend of mine just lost her marketing job. Her target was N300M inflow monthly while paid 360k. We are really unserious and unreasonable in this country and take advantage of each other. Because of 360k you are telling me to go look for N300M monthly in this economy,” he wrote on Thursday.

  • Nigerian Actors, Yinka Quadri And Ogogo Finally Reconcile, Hug It Out After Feuding For Years (Video)

Popular Nigerian actors, Yinka Quadri and Taiwo ‘Ogogo’ Hassan, seem to have reconciled after years of fighting.

The actors ended their years-long rift at the housewarming and birthday party of Yomi Fabiyi, another Yoruba actor, in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

The star-studded event witnessed the attendance of actors such as Baba Wande, Ladi Folarin, Iya Rainbow, Shola Kosoko, Toyosi Adesanya, and Peju Ajiboye.

In the now-viral video, Sulaiman Ajobiewe, the chanter, urged the actors to bury the hatchet regardless of who was at fault.

“I pray God’s mercy upon you both. Whatever the issue, let it end here. We cannot live without occasionally offending one another,” he chanted in Yoruba language.

“I implore you, in the name of God, embrace each other and let this be the end of it. I plead with you using my parents’ names to put this matter to rest. Let’s forgive and forget for the sake of God.”

Moments later, Quadri and Hassan could be seen hugging each other as Yinka sprayed money on the peacemaker.

The actors were once close allies. Their friendship, however, hit the rock many years ago — with the cause of the feud yet to be known.

The rift became obvious when Quadri failed to attend Ogogo’s daughter’s wedding and naming ceremonies.

VP Shettima Drops Bombshell: Buhari Not to Blame for Nigeria’s Woes!

Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has asserted that the challenges encountered by the present administration upon assuming office on May 29 cannot be solely attributed to the immediate-past administration led by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking at a roundtable hosted by the 21st Century Chronicle, Shettima emphasized that President Bola Tinubu made a tough decision for the country’s benefit rather than opting for an easier path.

He stated, “The president chose the option that would save the lives of the people instead of prolonging economic turmoil. We refrain from laying blame on previous administrations as leadership requires courage and continuity.”

Before the current administration assumed office, one of the major challenges faced was the issue of fuel subsidy removal, which had persisted for 20 to 30 years, according to Shettima. He explained that there was insufficient budgetary provision for it in the fiscal year, leading to the need for its removal.

A year before we took office, Nigeria’s debt service to revenue ratio had grown to 111.18 percent, posing a significant economic threat,” Shettima continued. Our debt service ratio meant that for every N100,000 earned, an additional N11,800 had to be borrowed to service debts. This was unsustainable.”

Consequently, the administration had to make the difficult decision to jettison the subsidy regime, despite it being a bitter pill to swallow.

Shettima also highlighted a past incident where a presidential candidate in the previous election pointed to Argentina as a model for Nigeria’s economic trajectory. However, within weeks, Argentina experienced a surge in inflation, underscoring the complexities of governance.

Shettima emphasized that governance requires strategic decision-making tailored to Nigeria’s unique circumstances, rather than blindly copying models from other countries.

ASUU Shuts Down University of Abuja as Dispute with Management Escalates

The University of Abuja chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has initiated an indefinite strike starting from Thursday, May 2. Dr. Sylvanus Ugoh, the Chairman of the branch, confirmed this decision, which was reached during a congress meeting held at the institution’s Permanent Site.

The ASUU members at the University of Abuja have been in disagreement with the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulrasheed Na’allah, and the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, regarding the process for appointing a new VC.

This conflict arose following the publication of an advertorial in a national daily on March 15, 2024, calling for applications for the position of the Vice-Chancellor to replace Na’Allah.

However, ASUU members rejected the advertisement during a conference, deeming it “illegal” and asserting that it did not originate from the governing council. According to Dr. Ugoh, the Universities Miscellaneous Provision Act 1993, as amended in 2003 and 2012 (Section 3, subsections 1 and 2), grants exclusive authority to the governing council to advertise the vacancy for the VC position when it becomes available.

Dr. Ugoh emphasized that no other entity or individual possesses the legal authority to initiate the process of appointing a new Vice-Chancellor.

QatarEnergy’s CEO, Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, has declined to invest in Nigeria despite a recent meeting with President Ahmed Bola Tinubu during his visit to the Middle East. However, Africa Intelligence reports that after thorough deliberations, al-Kaabi, who also serves as the emirate’s energy minister, is not inclined to have his company invest in Nigeria. • Core and Non-Core Ijaw Divide Is Just Propaganda Against Senator Dickson – Popular Commentator

Core and Non-Core Ijaw Divide Is Just Propaganda Against Senator Dickson – Popular Commentator

There Is No Core Ijaw And Non-Core Ijaw In Bayelsa State, It’s Just A Propaganda Against Senator Dickson

Bayelsa is a State in the Southern region of Nigeria, which is majorly dominated by the Ijaws with an estimated population of 0.9 million. The Ijaws were living as minority in most Southern States before the creation of Bayelsa State by Late General Sani Abacha in 1996.

The name ‘Bayelsa’ is an acronym of three Local Government Areas; Brass, Yenagoa and Sagbama which were the three local government areas in the then Rivers State. There are four major dialects in Bayelsa State; Izon, Nembe, Ogbia and Epie-Atissa.

Bayelsa State is generally known as the headquarters of the Ijaw nation, as the only State majorly dominated by the Ijaw speaking people in the Southern region of Nigeria, regardless of the differential dialects.

Bayelsans who are publicly known as Ijaws, have always lived together peacefully and unitedly since the creation of the State in 1996, without any form of segregation of people from any local government area or senatorial district respectively.

The State has had Six(6) Executive Governors; Late DSP Alamieyeseigha, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Chief Timipre Sylva, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson and Sen. Douye Diri since the creation of the State with the Practice of a Democratic System of Government in Nigeria in 1999.

The State has had experienced and development-oriented governors who made relentless efforts and tremendous contributions in different sectors of the State’s economy towards the growth and development of the State, as a virgin State.

The respective State Governors have made meaningful contributions in different sectors towards the growth and development of the State, and the improvement in the welfare of the citizens over the years basically.

Bayelsa may not have achieved the desired growth and development in comparison with other states created in 1996 by Late General Sani Abacha, but successive administrations has made meaningful contributions and improvement in most sectors of the State.

The Restoration Government led by His Excellency, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson made tremendous improvements in most sectors of the State, which laid the foundation for the Prosperity Government led by His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri.

The Restoration Government and the Prosperity Government, are governments of all-inclusiveness, unification, development, peace and stability, as the people’s oriented administrations respectively.

The Genesis Of The Core Ijaw And Non-Core Ijaw Propaganda Against Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.

The build up to the 2019 Gubernatorial election in the State under the Restoration Government led by Senator Dickson, as then Governor; the people of Bayelsa East Senatorial District wanted the Governorship ticket or the Deputy Governorship ticket basically.

The struggle and power tussle to produce the governorship candidate or deputy governorship candidate under the PDP, created a lot of political tension, disagreements, alignments and realignments among political gladiators and leaders in the state, which led to the defection of politicians from one party to another.

Senator Henry Seriake Dickson as then Governor, stood his ground gallantly to produce a successor, in order to continue the solid foundation laid by his administration of all-inclusiveness, peace, unity, stability and development basically.

Senator Dickson as an experienced politician and leader in his wisdom, deemed it necessary and pertinent to favor the people of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, by giving the governorship ticket to Senator Douye Diri, as then Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The people of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, are perceived and regarded as minority with the smallest population in the State, since the creation of Bayelsa State in 1996 by Late General Sani Abacha.

Senator Dickson’s unrelenting and unwavering zeal and commitment in forming a formidable successive administration with leaders of vision, experience and competence, picked Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo as a running mate, as then Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The political atmosphere became tensed with a lot of unsatisfied interests, mostly political leaders and stakeholders from Bayelsa East who were desperately interested of the leadership of the state, but were not favored by then Governor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.

Senator Dickson’s refusal to grant the demand of political leaders and stakeholders of Bayelsa East to produce the governorship candidate or the deputy governorship candidate under the PDP, led to the propaganda of Core Ijaw and Non-Core Ijaw against Dickson as then Governor.

Setting the record straight; Bayelsa East had Deputy Governor and Secretary to the State Government for eight years, State PDP Chairman, Commissioner for Finance, and other sensitive appointments under the Restoration Government led by Senator Dickson as then Governor.

It is imperative to state that the people of Bayelsa East were favored under Senator Dickson far more than they were favored by their illustrious Son, Chief Timipre Sylva as Governor. Core Ijaw and Non-Core is nothing but a propaganda against Senator.

As then Governor, Senator Dickson gave political appointments to Ijaws even in other States outside Bayelsa, for the purpose and vision of togetherness, unity, peace and all-inclusiveness of the Ijaw people.

Senator Dickson has always being a believer and builder of the Ijaw nation, as a product and founding father of the Ijaw struggle from the days of the old Rivers State. He has being a voice of the Ijaw nation in the National Assembly, as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Bayelsa State is regarded as the headquarters of the Ijaw nation, as the only State that is dominated by the Ijaws in Nigeria and beyond. There should be no segregation of any dialect, in bid to score a political point for personal political gains.

Politicians from Bayelsa East that are responsible for the sponsorship of the Core Ijaw and Non-Core propaganda against Senator Dickson and Governor Douye Diri, should stop forthwith. Bayelsans are one indivisible people as Ijaws, regardless of differential dialects.

The time for politics has come and gone, and it’s time for governance to bring the desired development, peace and stability to the state, irrespective of political party affiliation as one united and indivisible people.

May Day: Ekiti Workers Celebrated In Gloom – PDP

The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has blamed the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for economic hardships in Ekiti State and Nigeria in general.

The opposition party in a statement made available to newsmen by its State Publicity Secretary, Raphael Adeyanju in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, said that Ekiti State workers celebrated this year’s Workers Day in gloom because the ruling party has failed the masses both at the state and the national level.

“Yesterday was Workers’ Day, a day meant to celebrate workers all over the world, but here in Ekiti State, there was nothing to celebrate because the government is not a workers’ friendly one.

“The condition of civil servants and the retirees is one of the worst in Nigeria. Ekiti State pays a paltry sum of fifteen thousand Naira for civil servants and ten thousand Naira to retire as palliatives for the suffering inflicted on them. What can this achieve in this terrible economic situation?” He queried.

Reacting to the current fuel scarcity and the general high cost of living in the state, the PDP spokesman said that the situation has become unbearable.

He added that, “This terrible situation has reached a breaking point in Ekiti State. A liter of petrol now sells for two thousand Naira, the cost of transportation is terrible, with a deplorable road network.

“Our people now battle with poverty, high cost of living and general state of insecurity”

The opposition party also accused the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji of misplaced priority, stating that while the ordinary citizen was grasping for survival as a result of inhuman policies of the APC controlled federal government, Oyebanji was only interested in embarking on projects that have no direct positive impact on the lives and wellbeing of Ekiti people.

“Recently, our party called the attention of the governor to his oversized cabinet, which we warned will lead to avoidable wastage, yet he has continued to make more appointments for political patronage.

“It will not surprise anybody if the Ekiti State government decides to shift all the blame on the clueless policies of the APC controlled Federal government because their party is only good at trading blames and making excuses.

“Since the inception of the APC government in Nigeria, the ordinary citizens have not experienced any respite.

“Immediately their party took over from President Goodluck Jonathan, it has been one excuse or another. President BolaTinubu has also continued to blame his own failure on his predecessor from the same party. “

Naira Depreciates by N112 Against Dollar in April

In a notable turn of events, the Nigerian Naira experienced a significant depreciation against the US dollar throughout the month of April 2024, according to data from FMDQ. The currency, which began the month trading at N1,278.58 per dollar, concluded the month at N1,390.96 per dollar, marking a substantial loss of N112.38 over the period.

This depreciation equates to a striking 10% decrease in the value of the Naira against the dollar during April. Interestingly, the Naira had initially shown strength by recording a noteworthy 12% gain against the dollar in the first 12 days of the month, further building on its impressive 14% surge observed in March. Consequently, Goldman Sachs had lauded the Naira as the best performing currency during that period.

However, the latter half of April witnessed a reversal in this trend, leading to a notable month-on-month decline in the Naira’s value relative to the dollar. Despite earlier gains, the currency’s overall performance for the month now reflects a significant setback.

In response to these developments, Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has indicated that the apex bank is actively devising policies to address the instability of the Naira in the forex market. This statement underscores the seriousness with which authorities are approaching the challenge posed by the fluctuating exchange rates.

The fluctuations in the Naira’s value against the dollar not only impact individual consumers and businesses but also carry broader implications for the Nigerian economy as a whole. As stakeholders await further developments and policy interventions from the CBN, attention remains focused on the efforts to stabilize the currency and foster economic resilience.

  • Stop Playing Politics With People

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused Gov Charles Soludo of Anambra state of being desperate for a second tenure which has made him succumb to pressure from Fulani herdsmen.

The Biafra agitators urged Soludo to refrain from playing politics and prioritize the security matters in the state.

According to IPOB, Soludo’s alleged desperation for a second term has led him to yield to pressure from the ‘Fulani hegemony’.

IPOB expressed concern over the alarming activities of Fulani terrorists posing as herdsmen in various local government areas of Anambra State, particularly in Dunukofia, Awka North, South, Orumba North, and South.

IPOB called upon the residents of Anambra State to unite and combat all forms of insecurity within the state.

In a statement issued by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, IPOB said: “Desperation for a second term has made Prof. Soludo succumb to pressure from the Fulani hegemony.

“All well-meaning people of Anambra should RISE UP NOW! and stop Arthur Eze before he turns Anambra State into a slaughterhouse just like Southern Kaduna.

“We are also warning the Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his government to stop playing politics with the security of Anambra indigenes and Biafra people.

“Gov. Soludo must stop the likes of Arthur Eze from endangering Anambrans for his selfish economic interests. We remind Gov. Soludo that politics for a second term must not be played with the lives of Anambra residents.

“The Fulani terrorists, aka herdsmen menace in the South East must be checkmated by ESN irrespective of State Government and Federal Government’s sabotage.

“The unwarranted attack against ESN by the Joint Task Force of Nigeria Security while countering Fulani herdsmen destruction of farmlands on Saturday 20th April 2024 should not repeat. ESN will not fail to retaliate against any attacks if provoked. ESN will do everything necessary to protect Biafrans and Biafra Land.

  • FG Reveals Kick-Off Date For New Minimum Wage

The Federal Government has announced that from May 1, 2024, the new minimum wage will take effect.

The decision was made despite the Tripartite Committee On National Minimum Wage is yet to conclude its negotiations.

The Minister of State Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, made this known on Wednesday while addressing Nigerian workers at the May Day celebration in Abuja.

She said it is regrettable that the new national minimum wage is not ready before today, but that a wide consultation is ongoing to ensure that the document is out together as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has demanded a living wage of ₦615,000 from the federal government for Nigerian workers.

The NLC President made the demand on Wednesday, May 1, during an interview appearance on Channels TV.

Ajaero also rejected the salary increase of between 25 percent and 35 percent for civil servants across various consolidated salary structures as announced by the government on Tuesday.

According to the NLC President, the increase in salary announced by the government is a mischievous step, adding that what workers need is a new minimum wage because the old minimum wage had expired since April 18.

He, however, accused the government of killing negotiations on the new minimum wage by refusing to reconvene the meeting of the negotiating committee after it was adjourned.
