Breaking: Court Sack Another PDP Lawmaker, Orders Rerun

The National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Enugu has delivered a significant ruling, nullifying the election of Okey Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the March 18 House of Assembly poll for Nkanu East state constituency.

This decision comes following a petition filed by the Labour Party candidate, Okwudiri Nnaji, challenging the outcome of the election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had initially declared Okey Mbah as the victor of the election. However, the tribunal’s judgment, delivered on Friday, September 29, cited non-compliance with the provisions of the 2022 electoral act as grounds for nullifying the election.

A three-man panel, led by Honourable Justice Adie Attoe Onyebueke, carefully considered the evidence presented in the petition and found merit in the Labour Party candidate’s claims. In its ruling, the tribunal ordered a rerun election in specific polling units located in Ugbawka and Owo wards.

The tribunal pointed out a critical discrepancy in the number of votes returned from these two wards. The total votes recorded exceeded the number of registered and accredited voters in those areas, raising concerns about the validity of the election results as declared by INEC.

To rectify this irregularity, the tribunal has mandated the electoral umpire, INEC, to conduct a rerun election in the affected polling units within the next 90 days. This decision aims to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that the voice of the people in Nkanu East state constituency is accurately reflected.

The ruling serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and adherence to electoral laws in Nigeria’s democratic system. As preparations for the rerun election get underway, all eyes will be on Nkanu East state constituency, where voters will have another opportunity to exercise their democratic right and choose their representative in the House of Assembly.

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege to Appeal Tribunal’s Decision on Delta State Governorship Election.

Following the verdict of the governorship election tribunal in Delta State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Deputy President of the Senate, has announced his intention to appeal the tribunal’s decision. The tribunal upheld the election of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as the governor of Delta State.

In a statement released by his Media Adviser, Sunny Areh, Senator Omo-Agege expressed his dissatisfaction with the tribunal’s judgment, citing fundamental flaws in the March 18, 2023 governorship election that, in his view, cast doubt on the validity of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) victory.

“It is a no-brainer that the Tribunal operated under a very challenging environment,” Senator Omo-Agege remarked. It, therefore, ignored the unassailable evidence adduced to question the validity of lawful votes as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). I respect the decision of the Tribunal, but it is flawed. I have no doubt that these flaws, which the Tribunal failed to address, will be dispassionately evaluated at the Court of Appeal. I have, therefore, directed my legal team to immediately proceed to the Court of Appeal and continue with the fight to restore the sanctity of the people’s vote.”

The decision to appeal the tribunal’s verdict highlights Senator Omo-Agege’s commitment to pursuing legal avenues to address what he believes to be irregularities in the governorship election process. It sets the stage for a legal battle that will determine the final outcome of the election.

As the appeal process unfolds, political observers and the people of Delta State will be closely watching to see how the courts address the concerns raised by Senator Omo-Agege and whether they will have an impact on the ultimate determination of the state’s leadership.

The Delta State gubernatorial election had been closely watched by both political pundits and the public, with Senator Omo-Agege seeking to contest the outcome based on what he believed were irregularities in the electoral process. However, the tribunal’s verdict now confirms Governor Oborevwori’s victory and solidifies his position as the leader of Delta State.

Dollar to Naira CBN and Bank Rate Today September 29, 2023

The Nigerian naira has been under pressure in recent months due to the decline in oil prices and the scarcity of foreign exchange. The naira has depreciated significantly against the US dollar in both the official and parallel markets, creating a wide gap between the two rates.

In this blog post, we will look at the current exchange rates of the dollar to naira in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and bank markets, as well as the factors affecting them. We will also compare them with the black market rate, which is often used as a benchmark by many Nigerians.

What is the Dollar to Naira CBN exchange rate?

The black market rate is often influenced by speculation, hoarding, panic buying, and other factors that are not regulated by the CBN.

Some of these policies include the multiple exchange rate system, the forex ban list, the forex allocation system, the forex intervention program, and the forex futures market.

APM Asks Supreme Court To Nullify Bola Tinubu’s Victory

Supreme Court Faces Challenge as APM Files Appeal to Nullify President Bola Tinubu’s Victory.

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has taken a bold step by filing a compelling appeal before the Supreme Court of Nigeria. The appeal, consisting of 10 critical grounds, challenges the recent decision of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) and seeks to nullify the election victory of President-elect Bola Tinubu.

Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume, the newly appointed counsel for APM, filed the notice of appeal, alleging multiple errors in law in the judgment rendered by the PEPC. At the heart of APM’s argument is the assertion that Sections 131 and 142(1) of the 1999 Constitution are inseparable and cannot be treated as mere pre-election matters. These sections, according to APM, lay down the qualifications required for anyone aspiring to the presidency.

APM’s petition goes beyond questioning President Tinubu’s nomination; it contends that he ran for the presidential election without a lawful running mate.

This claim is supported by the withdrawal of Ibrahim Kabir Masari and the subsequent expiration of the 14-day window for changing, withdrawing, or replacing candidates, as stipulated in Section 33 of the Electoral Act 2022. APM argues that these factors render Tinubu’s election invalid.

In a crucial point, APM accuses the PEPC of neglecting its duty and jurisdiction in addressing the core issue of whether President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima were “validly elected” as President and Vice President, as required by Section 239(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended). APM emphasizes that the definition of “validly elected” encompasses the qualifications and disqualifications specified in the Constitution.

APM alleges that the lower court’s approach was to sidestep the weighty matter of valid election qualifications by treating it as a technical pre-election issue. As a remedy, APM beseeches the Supreme Court to uphold their appeal, asserting that Tinubu was not qualified to run as the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), as he violated Section 142(1) of the Constitution.

Additionally, the party seeks a declaration that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) announcement of Tinubu as the President-elect is null and void, lacking any legal effect. APM’s argument extends to the withdrawal of Kabir Masari as the Vice Presidential candidate for Tinubu, which they assert resulted in the automatic invalidation of the APC candidate.

APM concludes its appeal by requesting an order that nullifies all votes received by the APC in the presidential election held on February 25. They further call for INEC to declare the candidate with the second-highest vote count as the winner of the presidential election.

This appeal now sets the stage for a critical legal battle in Nigeria’s highest court, with potential far-reaching consequences for the nation’s political landscape. The Supreme Court will undoubtedly be closely watched as it deliberates on this complex and contentious matter.

Nigerian President’s Chicago State University Diploma is a Fake – Coyden Palmer, former CSU student reporter

    By  J. Coyden Palmer

I gotta admit. This one story shows the level of corruption in Nigeria and it makes you cry and laugh at the same time. The President of Nigeria Bola Tinubu, produced a p to an election board in Nigeria that claims he graduated from the South Side institution in 1979.

CSU officials have confirmed in court that Tinubu did indeed graduate from the university, but cannot confirm the authenticity of the diploma that has now been submitted into evidence in a federal court. U.S. District Judge Nancy Maldonado on Thursday issued a stay on an order that would have required CSU officials to provide documents from the University confirming or denying President Tinubu’s claims.

The matter has thrusted CSU into an international political war, in which political opponents of Tinubu and many Nigerian citizens are calling for his removal from office. He was just elected to lead the country back in February.

Tinubu's Result from Chicago State University submitted to INEC
This diploma from Nigerian President Bola A. Tinubu is what was turned over to election officials in Nigeria and is now the subject of judicial proceedings here in the United States. Tinubu’s opponent, Atiku Abubakar has filed suit in the U.S. seeking clarification on its authenticity and is attempting to have the results of the election that was held in February overturned.

Nigerian President’s Chicago State University Diploma is a Fake

Let me make this easy for you. The diploma itself is a fake. On the alleged diploma, the date of graduation is listed as June 27, 1979. The signature of the CSU president shows Elnora D. Daniel. I almost spit out my coffee I laughed so hard when I saw this. Dr. Daniel didn’t become the president of Chicago State until 1998. How do I know? Because I covered her inauguration and her first two years at Chicago State when I was a student reporter for the now defunct school newspaper TEMPO. Additionally, on the fake diploma, Dr. Niva Lubin is listed as the President of the Board of Trustees. Dr. Lubin did not even start serving on the board until 1996. I’ve known Dr. Lubin since my days as student at CSU and she is a lifelong resident of Chatham where I grew up.

Dr. Benjamin H. Alexander was an activist and educator who served as the President of Chicago State University from 1975-1982.
Dr. Benjamin H. Alexander was an activist and educator who served as the President of Chicago State University from 1975-1982.

Furthermore, in 1979, Dr. Daniel was working as a teaching assistant at Columbia University, according to her biography and the resume she submitted when she applied to become the president of Chicago State in 1998. Now 81, retired and living on the east coast, I’d love to know her reaction to the news that the President of Nigeria who is 71 himself claims she signed his diploma. The president of CSU in1979 was actually Dr. Benjamin H. Alexander, who died in 1997 and was the first African American to serve in that role at CSU.

In 1979, Dr. Lubin, now married and going by the name Lubin-Johnson, well she wasn’t even a doctor in 1979. She didn’t become a physician until 1984. So how two signatures of people who were not working at CSU came to be on a document that the president of Nigeria is trying to sell as legit isn’t really a mystery. It is a lie. It is deceit. It is part of what is ruining many African nations and the world as a whole; corruption.

Elnora Daniel, Niva Lubin joined Chicago University decades after Tinubu ‘graduated’ in 1979, couldn’t have signed his certificate, Atiku tells court.

Other inaccuracies on the fake diploma that can easily be spotted by anyone who ever attended CSU, the University logo is all wrong for that time period. Again, I know this because the logo on the fake diploma is the one that was controversial when it was changed in 1999. Myself and my fellow student journalists at TEMPO wrote a story about the change in the school symbol because those against it said it was a waste of money. They claimed changing all the school letterhead and signage to the new symbol would remove financial resources from other needs.

President Daniel thought the change would be better marketing for the University so the change was approved by the Board. The University symbol in 1979 was a triangle with two bars. The bars represent the growth of the institution, starting as Chicago Teachers College, then Chicago State College (1967) and eventually Chicago State University (1971). I know this because I had to read that stupid handbook like all freshmen and you learn about the history of the school.

CSU attorney Michael Hayes said the University is prepared to do whatever the court asks of it. He said this international controversy has brought unwanted and unfair publicity to the school. I would debate that claim as CSU does enough stupid stuff that brings bad publicity to itself. However, I must admit, for now at least, it seems that CSU is a victim here of a Nigerian scammer. It wouldn’t be the first time an American institution fell victim to scammers in Africa.

President Tinubu Breaks Silence on Gabon Coup d'État
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu is in the middle of a scandal that has involved Chicago State University.

The end is possibly near for President Tinubu, at least in terms of his presidency, if justice actually prevails in Nigeria. When Judge Maldonado makes her ruling next week, in which it is expected that CSU will turnover documents that shows his true student records, the courts in Nigeria will have a decision to make.

They either remove their leader for violating laws in Nigeria or look the other way. I hope they understand the whole world will be watching too. Especially at CSU. Nigerians and everyone else deserve the truth. If Tinubu is willing to fake a diploma, what else is he willing to do?

Atiku Questions Authenticity of Tinubu’s 1979 University Certificate Signatures

In a stunning revelation, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has cast doubt on the authenticity of Bola Tinubu’s 1979 Chicago State University (CSU) certificate, claiming that the signatures on it could not have been genuine. Atiku alleges that Elnora Daniel and Niva Lubin, whose names appear on the certificate, were not part of CSU when Tinubu graduated in 1979.

Mr. Abubakar, who was the first runner-up in the February 25 presidential poll, is using this document to challenge Mr. Tinubu’s eligibility to hold the office of Nigeria’s president. The controversy surrounding Tinubu’s CSU records has been a focal point in Nigerian politics.

Atiku argued that it was impossible for Elnora Daniel and Niva Lubin to have signed Bola Tinubu’s 1979 CSU certificate because they didn’t start working at the institution until 1998 and 1996, respectively. He presented his case before the U.S. Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

The former Vice-President pointed out glaring inconsistencies between the certificate Tinubu submitted to Nigeria’s electoral body, INEC, dated June 22, 1979, and another certificate given to Nigerian lawyer Mike Enahoro-Ebah in response to a subpoena, dated June 27, 1979. He claimed that the June 22 diploma had a different font, seal, and lacked a grammatical error present in the June 27 diploma. Additionally, the June 22 diploma had only two signatures instead of three.

Angela Liu, counsel for Mr. Abubakar, raised questions about the authenticity of the signatures. She noted that the certificate listed Dr. Daniel as President of CSU, even though she didn’t begin working there until 1998. Similarly, the second signature purported to be that of Dr. Niva Lubin, whose legal name is Niva Lubin-Johnson, but it was listed as Niva Lubin on Tinubu’s certificate. Ms. Lubin-Johnson had joined the CSU board in 1996.

Peoples Gazette’s investigation confirmed that both Dr. Daniel and Dr. Lubin joined CSU after Tinubu graduated, and it was customary for the incumbent president and board chair to sign certificates at the time of request. These revelations raised doubts about the authenticity of the certificate, suggesting potential forgery.

Ms. Liu asserted that the June 22 diploma displayed signs of forgery, including illegible signatures and grammatical errors. She also highlighted that both Dr. Daniel and Dr. Lubin had left CSU by 2008 and 2001, respectively, despite claims that they signed the certificate.

In an attempt to delay the release of his school records, Tinubu pleaded with Judge Nancy Maldonado, citing severe and irreparable damage to his life. This was a last-ditch effort to prevent the order from being enforced. Atiku intends to use this document in his case at the Supreme Court of Nigeria to prove that Tinubu committed perjury and is ineligible to serve as the nation’s president.

The authenticity of Tinubu’s 1979 CSU certificate remains a contentious issue that could have significant implications for Nigerian politics.

The Minister of Interior , Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is concern and committed to solving the challenges facing the country.

“It is today a known fact that difficult socio-economic and security challenges are global, and Nigeria is not isolated.

“The Government is daily making efforts to confront these numerous challenges with all the might available until respite comes our way,” the statement quoted him as saying.

Tribunal Declares APC Candidate Winner, Overturns PDP Lawmaker’s Election in Plateau.

The National State Houses of Assembly Election Tribunal has made a decisive ruling, overturning the election victory of Timothy Dantong from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and declaring Moses Dachum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the rightful winner of the March 18th election in Riyom state constituency of the Plateau State House of Assembly.

Justice B.M Tukur-led panel, in its decision, cited a crucial factor that led to this outcome. It was determined that at the time of the election, the PDP did not possess a valid structure to nominate a candidate. This conclusion was drawn because the party was still in defiance of a court order issued by Justice S P Gang of Plateau State High Court, dating back to November 26, 2020.
