2 die as bus summersaults
On Friday, two people died in a single collision involving a Mazda bus on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, near Christopher University.
Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, a spokesman for the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the event to Ejes Gist Newspaper in Abeokuta, saying 12 others were injured in varied degree.
A ruptured tyre caused the driver to lose control and the bus with the registration number APP 417 XU to summersault, according to Akinbiyi.
According to him, there were 18 people engaged in the collision, with 15 men and three women.
“According to eyewitnesses, the commercial bus was travelling from Lagos to Ibadan when a tyre burst while in motion, the driver lost control, and the bus somersaulted, killing one of the passengers.”
“The second person died at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH),” he added, adding that he was rescued by Ogun State Ambulance and Emergency Services (OGSAES).
Men from the OGSAEC, according to Akinbiyi, took the victims to OOUTH and Idera hospital in Sagamu.

He expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and urged motorists to practise safety by adhering to speed limits and avoiding the use of tyres that had reached the end of their useful life.
