18 persons dead, 6 missing, as boat Conveying Sallah Celebrants Capsizes
A boat conveying sallah celebrants capsized in Mai’adua Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing 18 people, the majority of whom were children, and leaving six people missing, Ejes Gist Newspaper reports.
Lawal Sakatare, a local who corroborated the tragedy, stated 24 people were onboard the ill-fated canoe when it capsized, with 18 people drowning, the most of whom were young children.

“Thirteen of them came from Tsabu village, and four from Dogon Hawa community. “Fifteen of the 18 were buried today (Thursday) in Mai’adua, while the remaining six are still missing,” he said.
Sakatare stated that a search and rescue team from the impacted communities was still on the lookout for the remaining six, despite the fact that hope of finding them alive had faded.
